Seven people have been confirmed dead following a fatal road crash involving a bus belonging to Nile Star Coaches and a trailer in Nwoya District.
According to the Public Relations Officer, Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety, Michael Kananura, the accident occurred at around 1:15 AM on May 4, 2026, in Lapok Mor Village when an Isuzu bus registration UBP 736U collided head-on with an oncoming Benz Actros trailer registration SSD 040A/SSD 498C.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the bus, which was travelling from Arua, attempted to overtake two vehicles ahead before crashing into the trailer. The bus driver, identified as Abugo Mandella Kadin, is currently in police custody.
Police said four passengers died instantly at the scene, while sixteen others sustained injuries and were rushed to Anak Hospital for treatment. Three more victims later succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to seven.
Eyewitnesses who were aboard the bus reportedly accused the driver of reckless driving throughout the journey, claiming passengers had raised concerns that were allegedly ignored by the conductor.
