President Yoweri Museveni has commended Members of Parliament from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) for passing the controversial Sovereignty Bill, describing the legislation as important in protecting Uganda from foreign interference in its internal affairs.
Museveni defended the Bill and argued that every country has the right to manage its own affairs without outside influence. He also referenced historical events, including the 1971 coup that brought Idi Amin to power, claiming foreign involvement in Uganda’s politics had previously caused national instability and suffering.
The President further urged Ugandans to reflect on the country’s past experiences while debating matters concerning sovereignty and national independence.
