The Court of Appeal of Uganda and Constitutional Court have held a special valedictory sitting in honour of Fredrick Martin Stephen Egonda-Ntende, in recognition of his distinguished service and contribution to the Judiciary as he prepares for retirement.
The hybrid session, conducted both physically and virtually, took place in Courtroom 2 at the Court of Appeal in Kampala. The proceedings were presided over by Moses Kawumi Kazibwe, Deputy Chief Justice Designate, alongside several Justices of the Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court.
During the sitting, Special Sitting Application No. 1 of 2026 was heard in honour of Justice Egonda-Ntende’s retirement. The motion was moved by Solicitor General Pius Perry Biribonwoha, representing the Attorney General, together with senior officials from the Attorney General’s Chambers.
The Bar was represented by several senior legal practitioners and judicial officers, including Director of Public Prosecutions Lino Anguzu, Senior Counsel Pheona Wall Nabaasa, and other distinguished members of the legal fraternity.
The special sitting attracted serving and retired judicial officers, among them Flavian Zeija, Chief Justice Emeritus Wako Wambuzi, Deputy Chief Justice Emeritus Richard Buteera, Principal Judge Jane Frances Abodo, Judicial Service Commission Chairperson Douglas Singiza Karekona, and Judiciary Permanent Secretary Pius Bigirimana.
Also in attendance were registrars, magistrates, representatives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Attorney General’s Chambers, the Uganda Police Force, academia, members of the Bar, Judiciary staff, as well as friends and family of Justice Egonda-Ntende.
Following the proceedings, a luncheon was hosted at the Court of Appeal Conference Hall in Kampala to further celebrate Justice Egonda-Ntende’s contribution to Uganda’s Judiciary. The luncheon was moderated by Deputy Registrar Appellate Mediation Zulaika Nanteza.
