The Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Marksons Oboth, has congratulated His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Ssabassajja Kabaka of Buganda and the people of Buganda as the Kingdom marks the 33rd anniversary of the Kabaka’s coronation.
In a statement broadcast on Thursday, 30 July 2026, the Speaker described the Kabaka’s reign as a remarkable period defined by visionary leadership, cultural pride, and unwavering service to his subjects.
The Speaker’s message singled out the significant progress registered under His Majesty’s stewardship, particularly in education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and community development. According to the Speaker, these achievements have not only strengthened the Kingdom internally but have also made a lasting and positive contribution to the broader development of Uganda as a nation.
Paying tribute to Buganda’s enduring governance structures, the Speaker made specific mention of the historic Lukiiko, describing it as a powerful testament to the Kingdom’s long-standing tradition of consultation, accountability, and collective leadership.
Oboth noted that these principles closely mirror the values upheld by Parliament in its own service to the Ugandan people, underscoring a shared institutional philosophy between the two bodies.
Emphasising the strong and enduring relationship between the national legislature and the traditional institution, the Speaker affirmed that Parliament regards the Kingdom of Buganda as a trusted partner in promoting national unity, social cohesion, and shared prosperity. He expressed confidence that this partnership would continue to grow in the years ahead, benefiting both the Kingdom and the country at large.
The Speaker concluded his message with a prayer for the Almighty to grant His Majesty continued good health, wisdom, and strength to provide many more years of inspiring leadership to his people. He then joined thousands of well-wishers across the country in the traditional salute: “Wangala Ayi Ssabasajja Kabaka!”
