Parliament has embarked on an outreach programme to educate local leaders in the Bunyoro sub-region on the roles and responsibilities of Members of Parliament.
The programme, led by officers from the Communications, Library, Hansard and Budget Departments of Parliament, is targeting local leaders from Kakumiro, Kibaale and Kagadi districts.
The participating leaders, including Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and LC5, LC3 and LC2 chairpersons, were taken through the work of Parliament and the roles played by MPs.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja also engaged the leaders in a question-and-answer session, testing their knowledge of Parliament and its activities.
Nabbanja said the outreach is a step in the right direction towards helping district leaders understand the work of their representatives in Parliament, including representation, legislation, oversight and budgeting.
She added that the public education programme would also help Ugandans understand where to seek services that are not provided by Parliament or Members of Parliament.
