Residents of Kijuguta and Bugomora in Nyanamo Town Council, Kisoro District, are demanding compensation for land they say was taken over for iron ore mining.
The residents accuse Dazhong Iron and Steel Industries Limited of taking over parts of their land without adequate compensation, raising concerns about their livelihoods and access to farmland.
For many families in the area, land is a major source of livelihood, supporting farming and other economic activities. The affected residents claim that some of their land was allocated for mining without their consent, while others say they were either not compensated or were offered alternative plots they consider inadequate.
