This morning, Hon. Adonia Ayebare, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, received H.E. Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Uganda, for a courtesy call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Yimenu conveyed warm congratulations from Dr. Gedion Timothewos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and expressed confidence that under the leadership of Hon. The two principals undertook a review of bilateral relations and reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to deepen cooperation for mutual benefit. They specifically agreed to enhance collaboration in the priority areas of trade, investment, and air connectivity.

To this end, they welcomed the convening, in the near future, of a mid-term review of the Uganda-Ethiopia Joint Ministerial Commission. The review will serve to take stock of progress, address outstanding issues, and identify new areas for expanded cooperation.

The discussions further covered multilateral matters of common interest, including the forthcoming 32nd Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP32 – to be hosted in Addis Ababa. Both sides underscored the importance of the conference as a pivotal platform for Africa to articulate a unified position and advance the continent’s priorities on climate action, adaptation, and climate finance.
