Uganda and Japan have reviewed progress in the implementation of the Uganda ICT Industry Promotion Project (UJ-Connect), with stakeholders highlighting the project’s contribution to skills development, entrepreneurship and the growth of the country’s digital economy.
The review was conducted during the 7th Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) Meeting held at the Innovation Hub in Nakawa.
The meeting brought together representatives from JICA Uganda, members of the UJ-Connect Technical Committees and other key stakeholders to assess the project’s achievements, share lessons and discuss priorities for the remaining implementation period.
UJ-Connect has focused on strengthening Uganda’s ICT ecosystem through digital skills development, business linkages, technology-driven entrepreneurship and support for an enabling policy environment.
The project is being implemented through a partnership between Uganda and Japan and seeks to create more opportunities for young people, ICT professionals and businesses to participate in the digital economy.
Stakeholders said the continued collaboration between the two countries is helping strengthen Uganda’s ICT sector while supporting innovation and technology-based businesses.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to assess the project’s progress, identify lessons from its implementation and agree on the way forward for the remaining period.
UJ-Connect is expected to continue supporting the development of Uganda’s digital economy by strengthening the skills and capacity of young people and ICT professionals while promoting technology-driven entrepreneurship and stronger business linkages.
