The Controller and Auditor General of Tanzania, Charles E. Kichere, and Uganda’s Auditor General, Edward Akol, have commended the progress of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project during a visit to its facilities in Tanga.
The two auditors general, accompanied by their respective delegations, visited the Marine Tanks Terminal (MTT) and Spread 16 to assess the project infrastructure and progress firsthand.

The visit provided the delegation with an opportunity to appreciate the scale of the investment being undertaken by the governments of Uganda and Tanzania together with their affiliated shareholders.
The delegation commended the cooperation between the two countries and noted the project’s progress and its reported positive impact on surrounding communities.
With overall project progress estimated at 93 percent, the auditors general described the achievements as significant and expressed anticipation for first oil in early 2027.
The visit also highlighted the continued bilateral cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania in advancing the EACOP project toward completion.
