Uganda is exploring the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to transform the tourism sector and improve the country’s competitiveness as a tourist destination.
This was the focus of the 4th Annual Tourism Development Programme Performance Review Conference, which brought together government agencies, private-sector players, development partners and other tourism stakeholders.
The conference, held under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” provided a platform for stakeholders to review the sector’s performance, share experiences and identify interventions to accelerate tourism development.
The discussions focused on how AI and digital technologies can support destination marketing, improve visitor experiences, strengthen data-driven decision-making and enhance tourism service delivery.
The conference was attended by representatives from government, the private sector, international organisations, civil society, cultural institutions, local governments, academia, research institutions and the media.
The Chief Guest, Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Henry Musasizi, joined stakeholders in discussions aimed at developing practical approaches to building a more innovative, competitive and sustainable tourism sector.
The engagement also emphasised stronger collaboration among tourism stakeholders as Uganda seeks to harness emerging technologies and innovation to further develop and promote its tourism industry.
