Hon. Balaam Barugahara has launched the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Australia Chapter, with Kintu Paul appointed as its chairman.
The launch was held alongside celebrations marking Uganda’s 64th Independence anniversary in Australasia, attended by Gen. Henry Tumukunde, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Australia Dorothy Samali Hyuha, the Teso Paramount Chief and members of the Ugandan diaspora.
Speaking at the gathering, Gen. Tumukunde challenged the current generation of leaders to prepare young Ugandans to take up leadership responsibilities.
He emphasised the importance of mentorship and passing on experience to the next generation, including Ugandans living abroad.
The establishment of the PLU Australia Chapter is expected to strengthen the organisation’s engagement with Ugandans in the diaspora and provide a platform for political participation and networking.
Ministers Visit Kivu Coffee
During the visit, the Ugandan delegation also toured Kivu Coffee, a Ugandan-linked coffee business operated by Mr Tomusange in Australia.
Discussions focused on improving the company’s branding and promoting Ugandan coffee in the Australian market.
Mr Tomusange was encouraged to use Uganda’s heritage and coffee-growing history to distinguish his products from competing brands.
The engagement also resulted in a proposal to establish a Ugandan Coffee Centre in Australia to promote Ugandan coffee and connect exporters with potential buyers.
The proposed centre would provide a platform for marketing Uganda’s coffee, supporting diaspora entrepreneurs and expanding access to international markets.
The activities formed part of Uganda’s 64th Independence anniversary celebrations, which brought together Ugandans living in Australia and other parts of Australasia.
