Khat farmers appear dissatisfied with the government’s decision to enact stringent laws targeting substances in Uganda. Last week, President Yoweri Museveni assented to the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act 2023, introducing harsh penalties for the illegal use, promotion, and cultivation of Khat, commonly known as Mairungi, and other substances.
