Members of the East African Legislative Assembly have declined to adopt a report from the Committee on Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution regarding the performance and functioning of the Regional Police Centres of Excellence and Security Agencies Cooperation in tackling cross-border crime within the EAC region.
This decision follows concerns raised by legislators, who described the report as exceeding its mandate by including a recommendation on the alleged border conflict between Rwanda and Burundi. The regional legislators argue that the report, presented by Uganda’s Gerald Siranda, deviated from its original terms of reference, prompting a motion to have it withdrawn.
