Kisoro District Woman MP By-Election Underway

Polling for the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election has officially commenced across 322 stations, with materials dispatched under tight security and observers ensuring transparency. Voting began at 7:00 am and will close at 4:00 pm, allowing voters throughout the district ample time to participate.

Initial reports indicate low voter turnout at key stations like Mayor’s Gardens and New Park in Kisoro Municipality, though presiding officers expect numbers to improve as the day progresses. Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama has called for adherence to voting guidelines to maintain peace throughout the process.

At Mayor’s Garden, voters lined up early, though voting was delayed briefly to allow the first 10 voters to witness the opening of the ballot box. Six candidates are competing for the seat left vacant by Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, who passed away due to a heart attack in Kampala on September 7, 2024.

The Electoral Commission urges voters to report any issues via toll-free lines at 0800 300121 or 0800 300122, and stakeholders are reminded to support a peaceful and orderly election.
