Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, was declared the winner of the Kawempe North parliamentary by-election in a landslide victory. He secured 17,764 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Namabi Faridah Kigongo of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who garnered 8,593 votes.
His victory follows the passing of former MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, which left the seat vacant. The Electoral Commission announced the official results at Makerere University, the designated tallying center for the election.
Speaking after his win, Nalukoola dedicated his victory to the people of Kawempe and all Ugandans, emphasizing that there is still a long journey ahead.
