Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has urged government to prioritize malaria prevention through targeted interventions like spraying school dormitories and classrooms. While flagging off the 3rd Malaria Walk, Tayebwa cited recent Ministry of Health reports indicating a high malaria burden among school-going children.
As patron of the Parliamentary Forum on Malaria, he emphasized that a malaria-free Uganda is achievable through increased financing, research, and preventive strategies.
He also encouraged parents to embrace the new malaria vaccine and ensure children are tested before returning to school. Tayebwa pointed to countries like China as models for successful malaria elimination.
