Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, the Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 4th Infantry Division, has advised female personnel to uphold discipline and live responsibly rather than pursuing indulgent or extravagant lifestyles. He cautioned that the allure of luxury commonly referred to as the “soft life” often results in misconduct and financial difficulties.
While addressing troops at the Division headquarters, Maj Gen Busizoori emphasized the importance of following the UPDF Code of Conduct, particularly the guideline that bars female officers from entering into marriage or starting families during their initial four years of enlistment.
He issued a stern warning that those who disregard this directive risk facing disciplinary action, including possible dismissal from service. “An increasing number of female officers are now wearing long braided hairstyles that extend beyond their shoulders,” he observed. “This contravenes the UPDF grooming standards, which remain unchanged. Such behavior erodes the professionalism and public image of the force.”
He urged the soldiers to preserve dignity and embrace discipline as the bedrock of their military journey. “Discipline is fundamental to achieving success in any role. Women are often regarded as symbols of excellence. Uphold your self-worth, avoid substance abuse, refrain from body alterations such as piercings, and preserve your natural appearance,” he stated.
Maj Gen Busizoori also encouraged the troops to present themselves with decency and focus on creating legacies marked by honor and devotion to duty. “Steer clear of habits that don’t enhance your income or contribute to your military career. Living responsibly will safeguard your future,” he added.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Division Commander Brig Gen Jackson Kayanja, along with various department heads and senior officers.
