Eighty-two successful recruits from Kamuli District have been officially dispatched to Kaweweta Recruit Training School in Nakaseke District, marking the beginning of their service journey in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).
The flag-off ceremony, held on 13 August 2025, was officiated by the Resident District Commissioner, Mrs. Birungi Rose, who described joining the UPDF as a rare and treasured opportunity. “Many have not made it, but you, the fortunate ones, go and excel in our army,” Mrs. Birungi told the recruits, noting that Kamuli District has produced numerous soldiers who have advanced through the ranks. She underscored that discipline is the cornerstone of success in the army and that belonging to a disciplined force offers young recruits a significant edge.
The recruits were chosen from the ongoing nationwide recruitment drive, which commenced in early August following an online application process targeting Ugandans eager to serve in the UPDF. In the Busoga Region, the physical recruitment exercise covers eleven districts and one city, with the goal of enlisting 969 candidates.
Brigadier General Jackson Mpande Kajuba, the Busoga Region Recruitment Team Leader, commended the recruits for their determination, perseverance, and ability to meet the required standards. “Safeguard your health diligently and give your training top priority so you can become the leaders of tomorrow,” Brig. Gen. Kajuba advised, urging them to uphold discipline and strive for excellence in the professional army.
He reminded them that the army would be their primary home and encouraged them to serve with loyalty, patriotism, and competence. “Stay patriotic, demonstrate your skills, and be ready to defend your country effectively,” he added.
The Kamuli recruitment activity, held at Kamuli Youth Centre, also included candidates from Buyende and Kaliro districts.
The event was graced by local leaders from Busoga and Kamuli, together with members of the UPDF recruitment team.
