The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, today held a meeting with H.E. Amokrane Mourad, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Uganda, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters.
The two sides commended the long-standing relations and cooperation between Uganda and Algeria. Hon. Oryem welcomed Uganda’s growing exports to Algeria, including powdered milk, with 400 tonnes already supplied, and coffee, with four Ugandan companies actively engaged in cooperation.
The Ambassador expressed appreciation for Uganda’s participation in the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in Algeria, where Ugandan products and innovations were showcased through exhibitions and displays.
The meeting also noted the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries’ Ministers of Finance, paving the way for the extension of Katakwi Hospital, a project scheduled to commence in four months. In addition, the two sides discussed opportunities for Algerian scholarships to benefit Ugandan students.
Both Hon. Oryem and Ambassador Mourad reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of the peoples of Uganda and Algeria.
