The Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT) has commenced emergency restoration works on the Iganga–Bulopa–Kamuli Road, following heavy flooding that damaged the Namadope Swamp section on October 26, 2025.
According to the Ministry, the flooding caused severe erosion and culvert failure, completely cutting off traffic flow between Km 7+000 and Km 7+600. The contractor has since secured the site and mobilized teams to restore the affected section within 24 hours.
In the meantime, the public has been advised to use alternative routes to access Luuka and Iganga, including:
- Busalamu – Waibuga Subcounty Headquarters – Bulanga – Iganga
- Namukubembe – Buwologoma – Kawete – Namungalwe – Iganga
- Namadope Trading Centre – Bukyogo – Butimbwa – Kinawanswa – Bulamagi – Iganga
Motorists are urged to follow diversion signage placed along the routes to ensure safety and smooth movement.
The Ministry apologized for the inconvenience caused and appreciated the public’s patience and cooperation as efforts continue to reinstate normal traffic flow on the affected road section.
