Police Recover AK-47 Rifle at Tausi Bus Terminal in Kampala

Police at Old Kampala have recovered an AK-47 rifle at Tausi Bus Terminal in Bukesa Parish, Kampala Central Division, following a suspicious incident involving an unidentified passenger.

According to Rachael Kawala, the incident occurred on April 14, 2026, at around 5:00 a.m. as a bus conductor was loading passengers onto a bus bound for Mbarara.

It is alleged that an unknown passenger approached the conductor and requested that his luggage be transported. As part of routine security checks, the conductor asked the passenger to open the bag for inspection, but he declined, raising suspicion.

The conductor proceeded to physically check the luggage and detected an object resembling a firearm, prompting him to alert authorities.

A police task team swiftly responded to the scene and, upon inspection, recovered an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine and no ammunition. The weapon had been concealed in a white polythene bag and placed inside another bag.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Police say efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend him as investigations continue.

Authorities have commended the conductor for his vigilance, noting that the swift action helped prevent a potential security threat.
