Host nations face tight timelines as AFCON 2027 workshop opens in Kampala

Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania have been urged to fast-track preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations as timelines tighten.

The call came at the opening of the CAF AFCON 2027 workshop in Kampala, where officials reviewed progress and next steps.

CAF General Secretary Samson Adamu said time is limited and all key tasks must move faster, with clear roles and coordination required to deliver the tournament.

State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang said the three governments will provide the resources needed, reaffirming commitment to host the tournament for the first time in East Africa.

FUFA President Moses Magogo said the region will build on lessons from CHAN, noting that AFCON will be larger and requires stronger planning.

Officials from Kenya and Tanzania also called for urgency, with key milestones expected to be completed before the end of the year.
