Four Ugandan Coaches Earn ITTF Level 2 Certification as UTTA Confirms National Ranking Tournaments

The Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) has announced the successful certification of four Ugandan coaches under the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Level 2 Coaching Programme, marking a significant milestone in the development of the sport.

Jonathan Senyonga, Regina Nakibuule, Jude Mutete and Daniel Mutabazi completed the certification after fulfilling all the requirements of the ITTF programme. The course was conducted in Uganda from July 4 to 9, 2022, with veteran coach and Olympian Paul Mutambuze supervising the candidates after the UTTA Executive Board worked with the ITTF to complete outstanding certification requirements.

UTTA President Cyrus Muwanga described the achievement as a major boost for the country’s coaching capacity.

“This certification is an important step in improving the quality of coaching in Uganda. We are committed to building a strong technical foundation that will help develop players at all levels and raise the standard of table tennis across the country,” Muwanga said.

The association also announced two major competitions on the national calendar. The Seroma Open Championship will be held in September, followed by the Uganda Open Championship in December. Both tournaments will count towards the national rankings.

Muwanga said the events will provide players with valuable competitive opportunities while strengthening the domestic competition structure.

“These ranking tournaments are essential for identifying talent, maintaining active competition and preparing our athletes for regional and international events. We encourage players from across the country to participate,” he added.

The championships will feature Open, Under-19, Under-13 and Veterans categories, with competitors contesting both singles and team events as UTTA continues its drive to expand and professionalize table tennis in Uganda.
