Kampala – Uganda will host the 2026 Extraordinary Summit of Troop-Contributing Countries (TCCs) to the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) from 29 to 31 July at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The three-day summit will bring together Heads of State and Government from countries contributing troops to the African Union mission in Somalia to review the security situation and discuss the future of peace and stabilisation efforts in the Horn of Africa.
The programme begins on 29 July with a meeting of the Chiefs of Defence Forces, followed by the Defence Ministers’ meeting on 30 July. The summit will conclude on 31 July with a meeting of Heads of State and Government.
Participating countries include Uganda, Somalia, Kenya, Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Egypt, all of which contribute troops to the African Union mission in Somalia.
Senior officials from the United Nations are also expected to attend, including the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia and the Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS).
The African Union delegation will include the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, and the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia, who also heads AUSSOM.
The Deputy Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is also expected to participate, underscoring the regional body’s role in supporting peace and security initiatives in Somalia.
The summit will be held under the theme, “To Sustain the Stabilisation Process in Somalia.”
According to the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Uganda’s hosting of the summit reflects its continued commitment to regional peace, security and stability under the African Union framework, working closely with the United Nations, IGAD and other international partners.
Uganda has been one of the leading troop-contributing countries to African Union peace support operations in Somalia since the first deployment in 2007 and continues to play a key role in efforts to stabilise the country and combat terrorism in the region.
