Government Warns Schools Against Unregulated Holiday Teaching

The Ministry of Education and Sports has warned schools against conducting unauthorised holiday teaching, saying the practice denies learners time to rest and bond with their families.

The warning followed concerns raised in Parliament by Shadow Minister of Sports and Nansana Municipality MP, Hon. Bulasio Zambaali, during the House sitting on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.

Zambaali said holiday coaching had become widespread in both private and government-aided schools, despite the official school calendar providing designated periods for learners to rest.

He called on the Ministry to strengthen enforcement of the school calendar, increase oversight and take action against schools that continue to conduct unauthorised lessons during holidays.

Responding to the matter, State Minister for Education and Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, condemned the practice and said the Ministry had already issued circulars to Chief Administrative Officers and a school calendar clearly outlining instructional and holiday periods.

Ogwang urged members of the public to report schools conducting holiday teaching to the Ministry through the toll-free hotline 0800 377 771, so that reported cases can be investigated.

Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth also urged the public to use the hotline to report cases and ensure that schools comply with the official school calendar.
