The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has warned that individuals found to have mishandled funds under the Government’s cattle restocking programme will be arrested and prosecuted.
The warning was issued by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Alex Kakooza, who said he had received a report containing names of several individuals who allegedly received money from the programme despite not being eligible beneficiaries.
Under the programme, Government is providing Shs5 million to each of 16,000 households to support cattle restocking in the Teso, Lango and Acholi sub-regions.
Government allocated Shs80 billion to the programme in the 2025/2026 financial year, with more than Shs75 billion already disbursed to beneficiaries.
Kakooza, however, did not disclose the number of people implicated in the alleged irregularities, but warned that those found responsible would face the law.
He said the investigations and subsequent legal action are intended to ensure that funds meant to support vulnerable communities under the restocking programme reach the intended beneficiaries.
