Uganda Cranes have opened their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign with a point away to Tunisia after a 1-1 draw in Radès.
Rogers Mato’s second-half equaliser cancelled out Alaa Arous’ early goal for Tunisia, giving Paul Put’s side a draw in their opening Group H fixture.
But with the Tunisia test now behind them, attention quickly turns to what comes next.
Uganda return home to face Libya on September 29 at Hoima City Stadium, with kick-off at 7:00pm EAT.
The Libya game gives the Cranes another competitive test as Paul Put continues shaping his squad towards AFCON 2027.
Uganda are already guaranteed a place at the tournament as co-hosts alongside Kenya and Tanzania, meaning the qualifying campaign carries a different significance for the Cranes.
Rather than qualification itself, the matches provide competitive preparation, opportunities to assess players and build a settled team ahead of the finals.
Against Tunisia, Uganda recovered after falling behind in the 12th minute through Alaa Arous.
Paul Put introduced James Bogere for Travis Mutyaba in the 63rd minute as Uganda pushed forward.
Five minutes later, Nathan Asiimwe set up Rogers Mato, who levelled the match.
Tunisia pushed for a winner, but Uganda held on for the point.
The immediate focus now shifts to Libya in Hoima — the next competitive step in Uganda’s build-up to AFCON 2027.
