The Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Marksons Oboth, has assured Parliamentary Service staff that the ongoing validation exercise is not intended to cost anyone their job, urging employees to remain calm and continue with their duties.
In a statement shared through his X account, Oboth said he had sought the assistance of the Head of Public Service to ensure fairness and transparency in the exercise.
“It is not the interest of the new leadership of Parliament to see anyone lose a job,” Oboth said, adding that the exercise was a normal process aimed at restoring morale, integrity and order within the Parliamentary Service.
He explained that the validation would ensure that staff positions and ranks reflect the appropriate qualifications and experience, emphasising that promotions and appointments should be based on merit.
“When you are called a senior, you should actually be a senior. When you are a principal, you should actually be a principal,” he said.
Oboth compared public service to a race in which everyone should start from the same line and compete fairly, saying the exercise was intended to promote equal opportunities and accountability.
Drawing from his own career, the Speaker said he had risen through the ranks on merit after undergoing interviews and competing with other candidates, adding that public servants could advance through the same process.
He appealed to Parliamentary Service staff to exercise patience, remain calm and continue working normally as the validation exercise proceeds.
