The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) says it rescued 114 children from city streets on Friday, 6 November, and took them to the UWESO Masulita Children’s Home.
The children, 82 girls and 32 boys, are receiving care at the home as efforts to trace their families continue, KCCA said in a public notice issued on Saturday.
The authority says the operation is ongoing. It has asked the public to channel donations through registered childcare centres and children’s homes. KCCA says some children on the streets are exploited by traffickers who take the money they collect.
KCCA has asked residents to report children living on the streets or suspected cases of exploitation to the authority or the nearest police station. Reports can be made through its toll-free line, 0800 199 000, or on WhatsApp at 0711 007 000.
