Uganda is set to receive a boost in its healthcare sector following new commitments announced at the UK Global Health Summit 2026 in London.
Ugandan diaspora doctor Nik Kotecha reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening paediatric services in Uganda, with a focus on expanding access to specialised care for children.
The announcement was made alongside Rossella Miccio of Emergency UK, where a €1.8 million grant from the Randal Foundation was unveiled.
The funding is aimed at supporting global healthcare programmes and improving life-saving interventions across multiple countries.
In Uganda, part of the support will go to the children’s surgical hospital in Entebbe, which has previously received backing from Dr Kotecha.
The facility provides specialised paediatric surgery for Ugandan children as well as patients from across the East African region.
Health experts say the investment is expected to strengthen surgical capacity, improve outcomes and widen access to critical care services, especially for children requiring complex medical interventions.
Dr Nik Kotecha, founder and chairman of Morningside Pharmaceuticals, left Uganda during Idi Amin’s rule. Drawing from his childhood experiences, he has focused on making quality healthcare more affordable and accessible.
