The newly elected Board of Directors and Supervisory Board of Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) have officially assumed office following their election at the 20th Annual General Meeting held in Jinja on March 31, 2026.
The handover ceremony took place at the SACCO headquarters in Kiwatule, marking the transition to new leadership.
Presiding over the ceremony, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sam Kavuma, commended the outgoing board for its dedicated service and urged them to remain ambassadors of the SACCO.
“You have left office, but you have not left Wazalendo. You remain the right people to market the SACCO,” he said.
Lt Gen Kavuma called on the incoming leadership to work closely with management to ensure efficient service delivery to members. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong working relationship between the board and management, noting that this has been key to the SACCO’s growth.
He also cautioned that as the SACCO expands, emerging risks must be carefully managed, warning that weak governance and controls could undermine service delivery.
The Chairperson of the Supervisory Board, Justus Rukundo, commended the outgoing leadership for protecting members’ interests and pledged continued oversight to safeguard the institution.
Speaking on behalf of the outgoing Board, Allan Kitanda expressed appreciation to the UPDF leadership for the opportunity to serve, urging the new team to prioritise institutional interests.
Meanwhile, the incoming Vice Chairperson, Peter Gaitano Omola, thanked the leadership for the trust placed in them and pledged to uphold the SACCO’s legacy.
“I am among those who joined the SACCO at its inception… I later appreciated its impact and became deeply passionate about it,” he said.
The new board leadership includes Brig Gen Omola as Vice Chairperson, Col James Okiring as Treasurer, and Maj Mariam Kagoro representing gender interests, alongside regional representatives from across the country.
The Supervisory Board will be led by Brig Gen Rukundo, supported by Maj Newton Namaziima as Vice Chairperson and Capt Asha Praise Mbwali as Secretary.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including the Company Secretary, CEO, directors, and heads of department.
The new leadership is expected to steer the SACCO’s continued growth while strengthening governance and service delivery to its members.
