Kitara Football Club has once again etched its name into Ugandan football history after winning the 52nd Stanbic Uganda Cup with a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over SC Villa at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Buikwe District.
The Bunyoro-based side endured an early setback when striker Patrick Kaddu accidentally turned the ball into his own net in the 10th minute, handing Villa the lead. However, Kitara responded almost immediately as Villa defender Misi Diego Semugera also scored an own goal just three minutes later, restoring parity before halftime.
The decisive moment came shortly after the restart when Jimmy Kalema unleashed a stunning long-range strike that beat the Villa goalkeeper and ultimately secured the trophy for Kitara.
The triumph marks Kitara’s second Uganda Cup title, adding to the crown they won two years ago, while SC Villa remains on nine titles.
“We prepared for this final well. All the players knew about the magnitude of a task in thy midst. We played as a team and we have won it. Thanks to all the team players, coaches, management and our dear fans” team Captain Jasper Aheebwa Baguma who was also part of the 2023/24 winning squad remarked.
Kitara’s dominance extended beyond the team award. Gadafi Wahab was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Best Midfielder, Meddie Kibirige scooped the Best Goalkeeper award, and George Ssenkaaba finished as the Top Scorer. Villa’s David Owori claimed the Best Defender accolade.
As Uganda Cup champions, Kitara FC will represent Uganda in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.
