The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Association UK (UNMA-UK), one of the leading diaspora-led professional healthcare organisations in Europe, will host its 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Celebrations on 11 July 2026 at the Wandsworth Civic Suite, Wandsworth High Street, London, SW18 2PU.
Founded in 2020, UNMA-UK has grown into a vibrant network of more than 1,000 Ugandan nurses, midwives, and healthcare professionals living and working across the United Kingdom.
Operating as a registered Community Interest Company (CIC), the association is committed to promoting professional networking, education and development, welfare and advocacy, and strengthening healthcare partnerships between Uganda and the UK.
The AGM is expected to attract a large gathering of Ugandan healthcare professionals from across the UK, providing a unique platform for networking, collaboration, and professional engagement.
The event will also be attended by senior officials from the United Kingdom and Uganda, including representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Ugandan High Commission.
A key highlight of the celebrations will be the recognition and awarding of outstanding Ugandan diaspora nurses and midwives who have made significant contributions to healthcare delivery, leadership, innovation, and knowledge exchange between Uganda and the United Kingdom.
Speaking ahead of the event, UNMA-UK President Justine Nakimuli Odwongo reflected on the association’s remarkable growth and impact.
“In the last five years, the Association has grown to over 1,000 members, and more Ugandan diaspora nurses and midwives are encouraged to join us daily. We are working closely with the Ugandan Ministry of Health to ensure that our internationally oriented diaspora health professionals can return, both in the short and long term, to support specialist healthcare services and knowledge transfer,” she said.
