21 Killed in Kapchorwa School Bus Crash after Educational Tour to Sipi Falls

Police have confirmed that 21 people, including 20 pupils and one adult, have died in a fatal road crash involving a school bus belonging to King David Junior School, Ndejje, Makindye Division, Kampala.

The crash occurred yesterday evening at Chekwatit Village, Kimawa Parish, Kawowo Sub-county in Kapchorwa District, after the pupils had visited Sipi Falls on an educational tour.

According to the Uganda Police Force, the accident involved an Isuzu bus, registration number UA 108BQ. Preliminary investigations indicate that, while returning from the tour, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road, struck a large stone along the roadside and overturned.

The deceased comprise 20 pupils and one adult male.

Several survivors, including three adult males and a number of juveniles, sustained injuries and were rushed to Kaserem Health Centre IV, Kapchorwa General Hospital and Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to Kapchorwa Mortuary pending identification and postmortem examinations.

Police investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing, and the identity of the driver has not yet been established.

The Uganda Police Force has extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the management of King David Junior School and all those affected by the tragedy, while wishing the injured a quick and full recovery.
