Police have impounded 178 Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) operating in dangerous mechanical conditions during enforcement operations conducted across the Kampala Metropolitan Police area.
The operation, aimed at ensuring that public service vehicles are roadworthy and comply with required safety standards, saw 53 vehicles impounded in KMP East, 62 in KMP South and 63 in KMP North.
Police said the enforcement is intended to protect passengers and other road users from vehicles that pose a risk due to mechanical defects and poor maintenance.
Authorities have urged PSV owners, operators and drivers to regularly inspect and maintain their vehicles and ensure that any mechanical defects are addressed before the vehicles are put back on the road.
Police warned that mechanically unsafe vehicles endanger not only passengers but also other road users, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility and compliance with safety standards is mandatory.
The enforcement operations will continue across the KMP area until full compliance with road safety requirements is restored.
