Uganda Airlines has presented its strategic growth plan to Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the national carrier seeks to strengthen its operations and position itself for long-term commercial growth.
The airline’s executive leadership team, led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake, met Gen. Kainerugaba at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe, where they outlined key plans for the airline’s expansion and operational improvement.
The delegation included Chief Finance Officer Allan Joel Kyeyune, Acting Manager for Human Resource and Administration Anne Apio, and Acting Chief Commercial Officer Shakila Lamar Rahim.
The briefing comes amid ongoing structural changes at Uganda Airlines aimed at strengthening corporate governance, stabilising daily operations and improving the airline’s commercial performance.
Management said it plans to maximise the use of its existing aircraft while expanding international routes from Entebbe to Asia, Europe, the Middle East and major African regional hubs. The airline also plans to introduce domestic routes to respond to growing demand for air travel within Uganda.
As part of efforts to lower operational costs and strengthen local capacity, Uganda Airlines is also working towards bringing aircraft maintenance and ground-handling services in-house while investing in the training of Ugandan aviation professionals.
The airline leadership noted that continued support from government and industry stakeholders will be essential to implementing the strategy and achieving sustainable growth.
Gen. Kainerugaba commended the airline’s leadership for the progress made and pledged his support for the national carrier’s development.
He noted that a strong and competitive national airline is important to Uganda’s trade, regional integration and broader economic development, particularly as the country seeks to strengthen its connections with regional and international markets.
