Today witnessed the ceremonial launch of MV Bukungu—Kaberamaido—Kagwara 1 into the waters of Lake Kyoga at Bukungu in Buyende District.
This significant event, known as “flotation,” is a crucial naval safety test in marine engineering, ensuring the vessel’s readiness for sailing operations. The ferry is designed to carry over 300 passengers and has the capacity to load more than 20 vehicles per trip, making it a substantial addition to Uganda’s water transportation infrastructure.
On commencement of service, the ferry will be available to all at no cost. The construction of this ferry was undertaken by Songoro Marine Transport Limited (SMT).
This new addition to Lake Kyoga’s fleet promises to improve connectivity and boost economic activities in the region.
