Aucho’s Young Win Tanzania Community Shield

By Peter Otai

Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho featured in the midfield as his Young Africans beat Azam FC to lift this year’s Tanzania league curtain-raiser, the Community Shield, with a 4-1 victory.

Aucho was outstanding on the night at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, putting up a man-of-the-match performance in front of over 40,000 fans who came to watch the game. Azam FC took the lead courtesy of former Yanga player Feisal Salum, but a few minutes later, former Azam player Prince Dube leveled the score to 1-1.

Yanga secured more goals from league MVP, top scorer, and best midfielder Aziz Ki, an own goal from Yoro Daiby, and later, Clement Mzize added the icing on the cake with the fourth goal. To reach the final, Yanga beat Simba 1-0 in the semifinal, while Azam defeated Coastal Union 5-2.

Yanga has now won three domestic titles: the league, the FA Cup, and the Community Shield. It should be noted that Yanga also won the Toyota Cup in South Africa a few weeks ago after beating Kaizer Chiefs 4-0.
