Uganda Welcomes the Iconic Webb Ellis Rugby Trophy at Entebbe International Airport

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), in partnership with Uganda Rugby Union (URU) and Nile Breweries, today received the prestigious Webb Ellis Cup at Entebbe International Airport.

The Webb Ellis Cup is the official trophy awarded to the winner of the Men’s Rugby World Cup—the highest honor in international rugby union. Named after William Webb Ellis, who is often credited with inventing rugby football, the silver-gilt trophy has symbolized rugby excellence since the inaugural tournament in 1987.

Its arrival in Uganda marks a moment of pride and excitement for the local rugby community and fans. The trophy has been previously won four times by South Africa, three times by New Zealand, twice by Australia, and once by England.

The visit is part of ongoing efforts to raise the profile of rugby in Uganda and promote unity through sport.
