Man Dies After Mob Beating Over Suspected Cow Theft in Kanungu

Police in Kanungu District are investigating the death of 47-year-old Jackson Orishaba, who was beaten by a mob over suspected cattle theft.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate says the incident happened on April 3 at about 10:00 PM in Rwengona Village, Bushura Parish, Kirima Sub-county.
Orishaba, a resident of Kyikondeka Village, had returned from Bwindi where he had been on personal business. Police say he stopped at a bar on his way home. He is then suspected to have stolen a cow before being confronted by residents who assaulted him.
He was rushed to Katate Medical Center by his daughter, Ronnah Nasasira, and later referred to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and then Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he died on April 9 at around 11:00 PM.
The case was reported at Kanungu Police Station. Officers visited the scene, and the body was taken to Katate Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem.
Investigations are ongoing.
