The Minister of Health, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has received maternal and newborn health commodities and equipment worth Shs1.38 billion from the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), with support from the UK Government and the Beginnings Fund.
The donation includes 59,000 calibrated obstetric drapes, CPAP machines, radiant warmers, phototherapy machines, syringe pumps, newborn resuscitation kits, baby cots, caffeine citrate and hormonal IUD insertion and removal kits.
The supplies are expected to strengthen the management of postpartum haemorrhage, neonatal resuscitation and care for small and sick newborns, while also expanding access to hormonal IUD services.
In the Mubende region, the calibrated obstetric drapes will enable health workers to accurately measure blood loss following childbirth, allowing them to identify excessive bleeding and intervene promptly to prevent complications.
The intervention is aimed at strengthening maternal and newborn health services and improving the quality of care for mothers and babies across the country.
