Today, the Consulate General of the Republic of Uganda in Guangzhou organized a Promote Uganda Origin Event at Meta Incubator – Wisdom Valley, a technological innovation hub in Panyu District, Guangzhou. The event celebrated Uganda’s 61st Independence Anniversary and focused on promoting Ugandan coffee among Chinese consumers. The Deputy Director General of Guangdong Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, officials from Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office, Consular Generals from 30 Consulates, and Chinese business executives attended the event.
Amb. Judyth Nsababera, Consul General, and Ms. Qian Hongjie, Deputy Director-General from the Foreign Affairs Office, Guangdong Province, made statements. Dr. Emmanuel Iyamulemye, Managing Director of Uganda Coffee Development Authority, gave a presentation during the session. The attendees enjoyed Ugandan coffee at the newly opened Elgon Café and experienced Uganda through a Metaverse simulation.
The Consul General emphasized the promotion of economic and commercial cooperation between Uganda and China, focusing on attracting foreign investment, increasing Chinese tourism to Uganda, and expanding Uganda’s agricultural exports, especially coffee, to the Chinese market. She reiterated the Consulate’s commitment to support enterprises exploring opportunities in Uganda. Additionally, she announced the Consulate’s plans to construct a permanent home in Guangzhou and the imminent launch of direct flights between Entebbe and Guangzhou by Uganda Airlines, facilitating smoother connections between the two countries.
