Hon. David Beecham Okwere Champions Patriotism and Youth Leadership in Bukedea on Heroes Day.

As Uganda celebrated Heroes Day, Bukedea County Member of Parliament Hon. David Beecham Okwere chose to mark the occasion with the young generation of his constituency by officiating at the pass-out ceremony of1087 patriotism trainees from St. Teresa Kongunga Secondary School and Bukedea Secondary School. 609 students were passed out from Bukedea S.S whereas St. Teressa passed out 473 students as patriots.

The students completed a week-long patriotism training programme aimed at instilling discipline, nationalism, leadership and a sense of responsibility among young Ugandans.

Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Okwere praised the students for successfully completing the training and urged them to become ambassadors of peace and patriotism in their communities. He reminded them that the values they had acquired reflect the principles championed by President Yoweri Museveni and the National Resistance Movement during the liberation struggle that ushered in peace and stability in Uganda.

“You are now following in the footsteps of President Museveni and the freedom fighters who sacrificed for the peace we enjoy today. Maintain discipline and put into practice everything you have learnt during this training.”Said Hon. Okwere.

Hon. Okwere later joined the students in a parade march before awarding certificates to the graduates.


Bukedea District LCV Chairperson Simon Ongura commended the students for taking a bold step to undergo the training, saying the knowledge acquired would help shape them into responsible citizens and future leaders.


“Patriotism begins with understanding your responsibility to your country. I thank these students for choosing to be part of this important programme.” Said. Ongura Simon

Bukedea Secondary School Head Teacher George Ongodia noted that patriotism training has greatly contributed to the school’s growing reputation through improved discipline and positive behaviour among learners.

“Our students have become ambassadors of the school wherever they go. Their discipline and conduct make them true heroes as we celebrate Heroes Day.” Added Ongura

One of the graduates, Apolot Christine, said the training had empowered her to encourage fellow girls to stay in school and embrace the free education opportunities provided by government.

“As a girl, I can now inspire my fellow students to value education and remain focused on their future.” Said Apolot.

Another patriot, Okitoi Steven, thanked the school administration for organizing the programme and expressed admiration for Hon. Okwere’s leadership.

“I admire Hon. Okwere’s leadership and hope to become a leader like him in the future.” Said Okitoi

The event concluded with jubilant celebrations as the newly passed-out patriots honoured the Uganda flag through a colourful matching parade, demonstrating their commitment to serving their country with discipline and patriotism.
