The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces contingent serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia has officially received Battle Group 47 (XLVII) into the mission area, with commanders calling on the troops to remain vigilant, disciplined, and operationally ready throughout their deployment in Somalia.
While addressing the incoming soldiers, Sector One Contingent Commander Brigadier General Jackson Kayanja urged the troops to strengthen teamwork and unity across all units and departments, emphasizing that they are serving together under one mission.
He also reminded the soldiers to uphold the spirit of Pan-Africanism, noting that the UPDF deployment in Somalia is aimed at supporting peace, security, and stability for the people of Somalia and the wider African region.
Meanwhile, Sector One Deputy Commander Colonel Francis Aragamoi Obita cautioned the troops against the misuse of social media, stressing the need to maintain operational security and responsible communication while on duty.
The briefing was attended by both senior and junior officers as the new battle group officially began its mission under AUSSOM.
