WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Sends Emotional Message of Solidarity to DRC’s Ituri Province Amid Ebola Outbreak

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, has issued an emotional message of solidarity to the people of Ituri in the Democratic Republic of Congo amid the ongoing Ebola outbreak.

Drawing from his personal experience during previous Ebola outbreaks in eastern DRC, Tedros reflected on the resilience, courage, and determination of communities and health workers affected by the crisis.

He acknowledged the difficult conditions caused by conflict, displacement, insecurity, and mistrust, while urging communities to work together to stop the spread of the virus. Tedros also appealed for a ceasefire among warring groups to allow health workers safe access to affected communities and pledged WHO’s continued support to the people of Ituri.

He further announced plans to personally travel to Bunia to engage with local leaders and communities during the outbreak response.
