Uganda yesterday welcomed the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for International Development and Africa, Baroness Jenny Chapman, to the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) ahead of the institute’s 90th anniversary celebrations scheduled for July 2026.
The delegation was received by the Minister of Health, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the State Minister for Health (Primary Health Care), Dr. Charles Ayume, UVRI Director Prof. Pontiano Kaleebu, and other officials.
During the visit, Dr. Baryomunsi commended the longstanding partnership between Uganda and the United Kingdom, noting that UVRI’s scientific excellence and world-class research infrastructure have continued to attract international collaborations.
Baroness Chapman reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Uganda’s health sector and strengthening joint efforts to advance global health security through research, innovation, and collaboration.
The visit underscored the enduring partnership between Uganda and the UK in promoting medical research and enhancing preparedness against global public health threats.
