Residents of Buikwe District have welcomed government-funded road works in Nkokonjeru, Buikwe and Kiyindi town councils, saying better roads will ease transport and improve trade.
For years, poor roads and potholes have affected the movement of people and agricultural produce to markets.
The residents spoke during an inspection of the road works led by Buikwe District Roads Committee Chairperson and Woman MP Diana Mutasingwa, together with district and town council leaders.
Mutasingwa said the government has allocated UGX 1 billion for road works in the three town councils as part of efforts to improve transport infrastructure.
She said better roads would make it easier for residents to move goods and access markets.
Buikwe District Engineer Fred Seguya briefed residents on roads currently under construction and others lined up for improvement.
Buikwe District Chairman Wasswa welcomed the investment but called on the government to fulfil its commitment to construct the Lugazi–Kiyindi road, which he said remains important to the district.
Residents said the works would particularly benefit farmers and traders who have struggled with potholes, dust and poor road conditions.
They asked the authorities to complete the projects on time and extend similar works to other roads in the district.
