Uganda Wildlife Authority Inaugurates New Honorary Wildlife Officers to Strengthen Conservation Efforts

The Uganda Wildlife Authority has officially inaugurated a new cohort of Honorary Wildlife Officers as part of efforts to strengthen wildlife conservation, deepen community engagement, and promote tourism development across the country. The initiative is aimed at protecting Uganda’s rich natural heritage and ensuring it is preserved for future generations.

Speaking during the inauguration and Annual General Meeting, Dr. James Musinguzi, the Executive Director of UWA, said the Honorary Wildlife Officers were selected in recognition of their dedication, hard work, and commitment to advancing wildlife conservation efforts in Uganda.

At the same event, Prof. James Kalema, Chairperson of the UWA Board, described the appointments as the beginning of an important journey for the officers. He urged them to promote peaceful coexistence between wildlife and surrounding communities while working closely with UWA to achieve conservation goals.

Representing Tom Butime, Dr. Ajir congratulated the newly appointed officers and encouraged them to use their expertise, influence, and networks to support conservation initiatives and environmental stewardship.

The inauguration comes as Uganda continues to position itself as a leading tourism and conservation destination under the theme “Conserving for Generations,” with stakeholders emphasizing collective responsibility in protecting the country’s wildlife heritage.
