The NRM leadership has called on all party supporters to rally behind Rose Kabagyeni, the party’s flag bearer for the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament seat in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking at several rallies in Rubuguri and Nkuringo town councils, Bukimbiri County, members of the team from the party headquarters urged voters to reconcile and unite in support of Kabagyeni, who won the NRM ticket in the race to replace the late Sarah Mateke.
Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, the NRM Deputy National Treasurer, expressed confidence in their candidate’s potential for victory despite the return of candidates who, after losing in the NRM primaries, chose to run as independents.
“We encourage the people of Kisoro to reject such individuals, as every organization, including our party, has established rules that should be respected. We are determined to win this election and appeal to local NRM leaders in Kisoro, particularly the LC3 chairpersons, not to back independent candidates using party resources,” Kyatuhaire stated during the rallies.
“The response from the community has been positive and motivating. I hope we all stay united, committed, and focused to secure an NRM victory,” she added.
Hon. Rosemary Seninde, the NRM Director of Mobilisation, emphasized the importance of supporting the party candidate, stating that the NRM has the best interests of Kisoro residents at heart.
“Our efforts are aimed at reminding the people of Kisoro why they should vote for the NRM candidate. The NRM is committed to unity and bringing people together, and we do not want religious or tribal divisions to undermine this unity. Allowing such divisions would be detrimental to everyone. Our objective is to unite the community and collectively work towards an NRM win in this by-election,” said Seninde.
Ms. Rose Kabagyeni assured voters of her dedication to serving all residents and enhancing service delivery.
“My campaign period is short, but my message is straightforward. Elect the NRM for peace, stability, growth, and development,” Kabagyeni stated.
Joining her on the campaign trail were other officials from the NRM secretariat, including Mr. Rogers Mulindwa (Senior Manager for Communications), Mr. Samuel Eyenga (Senior Manager for Mobilisation), and members of the NRM District Executive Committee (DEC), along with other party leaders in the area.
Earlier in the day, the NRM team paid a visit to the family of the late Hon. Sarah Mateke, the former Minister of State for Defence and Woman MP for Kisoro, and daughter of veteran leader and NRM District Chairman, Dr. Philemon Mateke, at his residence in Kisoro. They offered their condolences, placed a wreath on Hon. Mateke’s grave, and paid tribute to her devoted service to Uganda.
