The Uganda High Commission in Pretoria, working with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and Kira Motors Corporation, has launched the Trans-Africa E-Mobility Expedition, a month-long journey aimed at showcasing Ugandan electric-mobility technology and promoting regional trade.
The expedition, themed “From the Pearl to the Cape,” set off from Kampala on November 20 and will run until December 20, 2025. The team will travel through Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Eswatini and South Africa. The Kayoola E-Coach 2025, Uganda’s flagship electric bus, will lead the caravan.
Along the route, the team will make major stops in Francistown, Gaborone, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Mbabane and Cape Town, where they will exhibit Ugandan innovation and selected agricultural products.
A series of policy and business engagements has been scheduled with host governments, private-sector partners and the Ugandan diaspora. Meetings will be held in Gaborone on November 29, Johannesburg on December 2 and Cape Town on December 6. Officials say the discussions will focus on strengthening regional collaboration and pushing forward the “Made in Africa for Africa” agenda.
The Cape Town leg, set for December 5–6, will mark the culmination of the expedition before the team continues its return journey northward.
The High Commission says the initiative is a significant step in positioning Uganda’s e-mobility capabilities and deepening commercial links across Southern Africa. The organisers expressed optimism about the mission and called for safe travels and successful milestones throughout the journey.
